In 2014, I worked with Sarah Prenter to put a protection plan in place for her and her daughter. As a single parent, it was important that everything was carefully structured around her specific needs.

Unexpected message regarding an insurance claim

Recently, Sarah reached out with an unexpected message:

“I met Theo years ago. He helped me put insurance in place in the unlikely event I became unwell. I had perfect health – never a day of illness.

In 2016, I received a devastating diagnosis of aggressive cancer. Theo’s careful planning allowed me to access the best treatment and the time I needed to fight and recover. My prognosis wasn’t good, but everything was in place to give me a chance. Thank you a million times over, Theo.”

I remember that time well, and I replied simply:

“Sarah, it’s been a privilege to stand alongside you through those challenges. Your resilience and strength have been remarkable.”

Stories like Sarah’s are a reminder of why this work matters.

It also highlights the importance of a high level of trust and mutual respect between client and insurance adviser.

Insurance isn’t something people wake up excited to talk about. It’s often seen as a “maybe later” decision – until life takes an unexpected turn.

My role isn’t just about putting policies in place. It’s about helping people think ahead, protect what matters most, and ensure they have options when they need them.

Through UProtectNZ Insurance Services, I work with individuals, families and business owners to bring clarity and confidence to protection planning.

No jargon. No pressure. Just straightforward, transparent advice and long-term relationships built on trust and genuine care.

Because when something does go wrong, the right plan can make all the difference.

If you’d value a conversation – or even just a second opinion – I’m always happy to connect.
